Your Common Questions about Holiday-Buddies:

Who is Holiday-Buddies for?
Holiday-Buddies membership is available to everyone over 18. We noticed more people are travelling alone but that few of them like to be lonely on holiday and not everyone finds it easy to make new friends. In the beginning, we offered our buddy services to singles and people wanting to go away on their own, without their partner or family; people who want companionship and the comfort of meeting and knowing someone before they go away. Now we've realised that as well as singles, couples are looking for other couples to share a holiday with, and families are looking for other families. So now, Holiday-Buddies is open to all groups.

And is it just for holidays?
No, as well as finding buddies for variations on the holiday name, 'short-breaks', 'long weekends', 'vacations', 'leisure breaks' and so on, members use Holiday-Buddies to find other people who share their interests. This might be related to one of the many increasingly popular activity breaks, a painting holiday for example, or to a local weekly activity, such as finding a dancing partner.

Any other ideas?
We don't want to limit your imagination or the use people will put Holiday-Buddies to but here are a few ideas:

That should give you a few ideas about how versatile we are at Holiday-Buddies. Remember too that your applications are handled by real people so we can respond to all types of request. Our membership application form is deliberately vague so that you can enter whatever interest you want to pursue.

So why join Holiday-Buddies?
Holiday-Buddies matches singles, couples or groups with others that have a similar interest. For example, if you want to go snowmobiling in Canada, you would be matched with someone else who wanted to do the same thing. This saves you time and you can get to know each other before you go so, that when you actually go on vacation, you already have a friend that shares your interest. You will enjoy your holiday that much more.

What alternatives are there?
Well you could place an advert in your local newspaper or a magazine, start up a chat in a newsgroup or go down the pub and start talking to people but these options are a bit random. On the other hand, Holiday-Buddies carefully selects members with similar interests and puts you in control over how much information you divulge and when. We consider Holiday-Buddies is a safer and surer way of meeting a holiday companion that you will feel comfortable with.

What activities do you cover?
Any you can think of. We can name about 500 quite easily. However, if it's very obscure, we may not immediately have a member with the same interest who want to go away at the same time as you. I have special needs. Can I still join?
Yes of course! The only requirement is that you must be over 18. It would be helpful if you told us about any limitations on your mobility etc, purely so that we can try to match you with appropriate buddies. Everyone is welcome.

How can I pay?
Introductions are free until the end of 2007. After that, the main method of payment will be using PayPal. PayPal is a secure, cost effective means of payment, especially for small sums, and is easy to administer. Setting up a PayPal account is very easy and is useful for many transactions, including ebay. If this option doesn't suit, please contact us and we will arrange an alternative with you.

How do I change or update my choices?
Easy. Go to the registration page, tell us your name, tick the box indicating you are a current member, enter the new information in the 'holiday requirements' boxes and in the final comments block make it clear whether you are amending existing details or adding new requests.

Why do you ask for so much information?
We collect the minimum amount of information necessary to deliver this service. The information about you is to help us weed out undesirable applications for membership. Not you of course, but others who might try it on, the sort you wouldn't want to be introduced to. Be assured that we will not pass your information on to anyone not entitled to receive it without your agreement. We do not divulge the checks we carry out for reasons of security but rest assured they are better than the alternatives listed above. The information we ask about the holiday you are looking for is so that we can match people with the same interests as closely as possible. This gives everyone the best chance of quickly making friends with someone who shares the same thoughts.

Do you organise holidays, breaks, events, etc?
Not at the moment and to be honest we have no plans to do so at this point in time. Getting to know someone before you hook up with them is important so that you can be sure you really do share similar interests. Discussing where you want to go, what sort of accommodation you prefer, what you like to eat and so on is all part of the fun. Also, there are hundreds of companies who organise holidays and of course the Internet has created a trend for self-organised holidays. We think it is much better that you and your new buddy work together on this one.
